EH&S Senior Consultant
The Senior Scientist/Consultant is responsible for management, program coordination, and technically sound work products that meet internal and external client expectations, on time and on/under budget, provides technical support in the field at client site assessments, and other related projects with input from the Practice Director. In addition, the Senior Consultant will support Environmental Health and Safety Programs onsite for commercial or higher education clients. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates work activities on large, complex projects (scheduling, proposal development). Manages projects and provides guidance and supervision to staff. Provides risk assessment and job safety analysis for work involving chemical and biological materials. Develops and implements laboratory safety, chemical safety, and occupational health and safety programs in academic or commercial environments.
- Collects, analyzes and reports on environmental data, such as building materials, atmosphere monitoring, and soil or water samples. Applies basic scientific and engineering principles to EH&E’s work, developing observational ability based on experience, solid analytical skills in discipline. Conducts environmental assessments, environmental sampling, indoor air quality (IAQ) investigations, laboratory inspections, and OSHA, DEP, MWRA, and EPA compliance activities.
- Clearly communicates technical concepts, contributes to reports and client communiqués, maintains context, and understands audience in written communications. Interacts with client contact or representative to fulfill coordination role, presents positive professional image, and identifies potential opportunities to senior staff.
B.S. degree (environmental science, industrial hygiene, safety, or the natural and/or physical sciences) M.S. degree is preferred. Professional certification such as CIH, CSP preferred. Eight to ten years of related work experience with Environmental Compliance, OSHA Compliance, Safety Compliance, or Research Compliance preferred. Five plus years’ Environmental Health & Safety program management experience. HAZWOPER Certification – 40 Hour, OSHA 10 Hour, OSHA 30 hour preferred. Must be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, SharePoint. Travel within Boston and the New England area and periodic travel nationally may be required; must provide own vehicle and have a valid driver’s license; and must be able to wear a respirator.
