This group of services specifically addresses the requirements of The Joint Commission for a pre-construction risk assessment (PCRA) for healthcare facilities undergoing construction, renovation, and/or maintenance activities. EH&E has designed its services around easy-to-use processes and tools that assist hospitals in conducting the risk assessments and implementing appropriate risk mitigation techniques with a minimum of external support.
EH&E has designed and continues to support the PCRA programs at two of the largest research hospitals in Boston, MA. Our personnel have developed programs and processes that successfully integrate the requirements of both facilities and infection control department personnel – key to completing construction projects with minimal risk to patients.
This service is designed to assess the effectiveness of your hospital PCRA program including the infection control risk assessment (ICRA) and interim life safety measures (ILSM) program. The service typically includes:
- A review of program documentation and current infection control requirements and interim life safety measures.
- Assessment of the implementation of all PCRA program elements.
- A report and electronic task list highlighting PCRA program strengths and potential vulnerabilities as well as recommendations for improvement to assure Joint Commission compliance and patient safety is maintained.
EH&E will develop a plan that defines:
-
Roles and responsibilities.
-
Documentation and record-keeping.
-
Training for contractors, subcontractors, and hospital staff.
-
Processes to assure accountability such as performance metrics.
A complete data management and reporting system to assist hospitals in meeting all pre-construction risk assessment requirements. It is customized by EH&E to meet hospital program needs and automatically generates construction permits and inspection forms required to assure program compliance. This system provides a complete automated tracking mechanism for documentation associated with the PCRA process, which often represents the greatest risk during Joint Commission surveys.
Services in this area can include:
- Construction containment management plans.
- Onsite inspection and auditing services for active construction sites.
- Development and implementation monitoring services (airborne dust and fungal spores).
- Project specific oversight and guidance for ILSM and ICRA and associated risk mitigation techniques.
- Contractor and vendor training.
- Management of program documentation and serve as liaison with regulatory agencies.
Large-scale projects and construction within highly sensitive patient care areas present unique and complex infection control, life safety, and/or Environment of Care challenges. EH&E has the highly specialized expertise necessary to provide risk assessment and mitigation services to ensure that building construction policies and practices are designed and implemented to maintain patient safety during complex construction projects.
