Investments in sustainability are no longer considered “add-ons” to campus operations or administrative budgets.  Tools such as life cycle costing and third-party financing are enabling institutions to meet their sustainability goals while saving money.

This online event will cover:

  • Establishment of revolving loan funds for sustainability
  • Government and utility tax incentives and rebates
  • Renewable energy grants
  • Student self-assessed fees
  • Sustainability endowments
  • Life cycle costing and real value engineering
  • Third-party financing of energy conservation and renewable energy

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Michael Crowley, MS, LEED AP, is the former Assistant Director of the Harvard Green Campus Initiative and now leads EH&E's Pathways to Campus Sustainability Program.  He led the USGBC LEED certification process for 28 university buildings; managed the Green Campus Revolving Loan Fund; developed Harvard’s web-based green design/build resources; and developed Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences greenhouse gas reduction commitment.

David Newport has been the Director of the Environmental Center at the University of Colorado-Boulder since 2005. Prior to this, he served as the University of Florida’s Director of the Office of Sustainability. At UF, Dave researched and published higher educations’ first sustainability report compiled to global business standards, led global efforts aimed at unifying sustainability reporting in higher education, shepherded a plan to make the nation’s fourth largest university “a global leader in sustainability,” launched a zero-waste program that has since become UF’s 2025 target for all operations, and published carbon-neutrality research and planning designed to make the university climate-neutral. Dave is currently a graduate student completing a Masters of Science degree in Energy Resource Management and Policy from the University of Maryland, University College. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University with concentrations in Management and Communications, and an Associate of Science degree from Santa Fe Community College in Environmental Science Technology.
