When initiating a new construction project, it seems reasonable for the owner to expect to occupy a building that works and meets the intended design upon project completion; that is that the building is functionally complete and all components and systems meet the designed performance parameters. But does hiring the design and construction team alone guarantee that this goal will be met? What construction milestones and deliverables should be contractually specified and benchmarked to ensure the owner receives 100% of their first cost investment as expected?
Building construction is a systematic process undertaken in an environment that is extremely difficult to control and that often breeds inadvertent and unapparent flaws, deviations from design, and sub-par system performance. The goal of this workshop is to educate building project stakeholders on the key project management parameters that will ensure delivery of the building they purchased .
As a product of EH&E's experience commissioning new buildings, this workshop will focus on contractual language, construction milestones, and key deliverables to help you identify construction process and schedule deviations before they become major construction completion issues . Work groups will perform tabletop exercises that walk participants through actual examples of key construction deliverables. The exercises will cover:
-
Contract specification language
-
Schedule analysis
-
Plans for start-up, balancing, testing and training
-
Balancing report analysis
-
Substantial completion
-
Project turnover documentation
