Needham, Mass. – May 5, 2009 – Environmental Health & Engineering, Inc. (EH&E) has been named as a 2009 Green Business Awards winner by the Boston Business Journal (BBJ) for energy-saving improvements the firm made to its offices in Needham, Mass. The improvements reduced the company’s energy consumption by 20% and qualified its workspace as an Energy Star Building.
The firm, which provides a broad range of environmental and engineering consulting services to businesses, healthcare organizations, and educational institutions, achieved the award honor by practicing what its experts prescribe for their own clients.
“By applying targeted construction inspections and several key (yet minor) heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) modifications, we were able to achieve an Energy Star Target Finder rating of 75%,” said John F. McCarthy, Sc.D., C.I.H., President, EH&E.
The rating means that EH&E now uses 25% less energy than the median office space in its geographic area.
“The achievement is noteworthy because it illustrates the significant impact that even small or mid-sized companies can have on their carbon footprint using conventional designs and equipment,” McCarthy noted.
The BBJ’s Green Business Awards honor some of the most innovative and effective leaders advancing "green" policies in Greater Boston. EH&E won its award in the Workplace category. All of the winners will be recognized at the BBJ’s second annual Green Business Summit on May 15, 2009, at the Sheraton Boston Hotel.
