Legionella Assessments

Legionellosis is an infection in humans caused by inhalation of the bacterial species Legionella. These bacteria can cause two types of infections: Legionnaires’ disease and Pontiac fever. In buildings, air-conditioning equipment (cooling towers and evaporative condensers) are the most common sources of Legionella bacteria; however, these bacteria have also been found in potable water sources (hot water heaters, shower heads, faucets, whirlpools, humidifiers). Liability issues become important factors for companies to consider regarding Legionnaires’ disease and its potential effects on employees or building occupants.

EH&E can help you reduce the risk of Legionella growth and subsequent Legionella outbreaks in your building through the development of site-specific cleaning programs and water testing schedules.

If your facility does have an outbreak of illnesses due to exposures to Legionella, EH&E can quickly assist in identifying the source of the bacteria and work closely with your organization to rectify the situation. EH&E’s experience and ability to effectively communicate complex and often frightening information clearly can prove to be an invaluable asset in restoring full building operation in the shortest possible time.
