Potent Compound Reviews

Work with potentially hazardous pharmaceutical compounds is a common activity in many bioscience companies. These compounds can include new drugs, chemical intermediates produced during drug development, and modifications to existing drugs designed to enhance their biological activity or uptake. However, designating appropriate methods for management of these compounds is often complicated by limited toxicological information. This unknown toxicity highlights the importance of developing a safety plan that includes identification of the proper practices, procedures, equipment, and facilities that will protect staff members from potential health hazards. EH&E can provide the following services in this area:

  • Review of material safety data sheets, toxicological literature, and relevant occupational safety and health literature for information regarding the compounds used. Determine recommendations for compound use that will include the type of personal protective equipment, as well as engineering and administrative controls.

  • Provide written guidance and conduct small group training sessions for individuals who will handle these potentially hazardous compounds, as required.
