Environmental Risk Assessment
Environmental risk assessment is a scientific approach for evaluating whether environmental contaminants could present concerns for human health, safety, public welfare or the environment. The goal of our risk assessment program is to prevent health effects or injury that may result from environmental or occupational conditions that exist at your facility. Using state-of-the-art equipment and proven methodologies, EH&E’s staff performs the following risk assessment procedure:

  • Hazard identification to determine what contaminants are of concern and may result in some type of harm to workers, neighboring communities or the environment.
  • Dose-response assessment to analyze the concentration levels of the contaminants identified to determine at what levels of exposure adverse affects will occur.
  • Exposure assessment to determine who or what is likely to be exposed to these contaminants, how exposure might occur, expected exposure concentrations levels, and the possible health consequences of such exposure.
  • Risk characterization to evaluate both acute and chronic non-carcinogenic health effects, as well as carcinogenic effects, and the uncertainties associated with the risk estimates.

Environmental Risk Communication

If an environmental or occupational risk exists that should be communicated, you must then determine to what extent and to whom you need to communicate that risk. A risk communication program will put your environmental concern in the proper perspective through education and training of the various stakeholders, including the public, your employees, your clients, regulatory groups and the news media.
