Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a key component of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. The construction process introduces a number of potential contaminants into the indoor environment. If not properly controlled these contaminants could negatively impact occupant comfort, health and productivity. The LEED IEQc3.2 Credit verifies acceptable IAQ by either flushing the building with outdoor air or conducting baseline IAQ testing after construction and prior to occupancy. Many project teams elect IAQ testing (which can often be performed within one day) because building flush-out has to be performed for several weeks after construction but prior to occupancy, a time period that is simply not feasible for tight construction schedules. Meeting LEED IEQc3.2 using the IAQ testing option is not as simple as collecting a few samples. Often the biggest challenge is conducting the sampling during the brief window of time between construction completion and occupancy. Also, the IAQ testing strategy and methodology must meet the rigorous requirements of the credit. EH&E’s LEED IAQ Testing includes: - Development of the testing plan.
- Review of your building’s specific requirements with your project team.
- Building walk-through to evaluate conditions prior to testing.
- Testing using state-of-the-art equipment and testing methods.
- Report that compares the test results to LEED specifications and is designed to meet the submittal documentation requirements specified by LEED IEQc3.2 (if desired, we can submit the documentation to the USGBC for you).
With over 20 years experience, EH&E is recognized as the leader in indoor air quality. We have served as the US EPA’s prime indoor air quality research contractor and conducted thousands of IAQ investigations across the United States.
EH&E’s staff understands the construction process and will adapt quickly to a tight construction schedule. EH&E has conducted LEED IAQ testing for numerous facilities (hospitals, laboratories, residential complexes, offices) that have all successfully earned the LEED IEQc3.2 Credit, and our testing program has passed the scrutiny of many USGBC audits.
