John D. Spengler, PhD, MS

As one of the foremost ambient and indoor air experts in the country, Dr. John Spengler is co-founder and Principal of EH&E. Dr. Spengler is the Akira Yamaguchi Professor of Environmental Health and Human Habitation and the Director of Environmental Science & Engineering Program at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Spengler brings more than 30 years of experience in developing and managing large-scale, multidisciplinary studies to assess human exposures to environmental pollutants. He has developed innovative sampling and analysis methods, large-scale personal monitoring studies, and receptor modeling techniques.

A member of numerous professional organizations, Dr. Spengler was a Founding Member of the International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ) and the International Society of Exposure Analysis (ISEA). He has also served as the International Coordinator and Advisor for ISAIQ’s Annual International Conferences on Indoor Air Quality & Climate held in Denmark, Portugal, China, Japan and Finland. Dr. Spengler authored book chapters and co-edited the IAQ Handbook (McGraw-Hill 2000), a comprehensive reference for building owners and managers regarding indoor environmental concerns. He is widely published in peer-reviewed literature and continues to frequently present his ground-breaking work at conferences around the world.
