EH&E’s interdisciplinary structure brings together specialists in microbiology, occupational and environmental medicine, infection control, biological safety, and public health communication. This allows our team to expertly assess exposures to biological agents and the resultant health risks. We have provided our expertise in projects and legal cases involving many biological agents including influenza, legionella, measles, bacterial and viral meningitis, methycillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), mold, norovirus, and shigella. EH&E is often called in at the height of a biological crisis, responding promptly through educating its clients and their staffs with the use of hard science and focusing on solutions in these potentially high risk situations.
Infectious Disease in the Workplace
A multinational corporation was experiencing a measles outbreak among their staff at an overseas facility. Concerned about the outbreak’s effect on employee and client health, business continuity and brand reputation, they hired EH&E to lead their response. We provided timely medical consultation, risk communication materials to their workforce, and recommended methods to improve workplace hygiene to control the spread of the organism.
Legionella Outbreak
A large urban hospital turned to EH&E to assist in responding to a large legionella outbreak among its patients due to EH&E’s extensive experience in hospital settings and expertise in mechanical engineering, exposure assessment, microbiology, and statistics. EH&E was quickly able to assess the current building issues, provide recommendations on appropriate corrective actions aimed at minimizing legionella growth potential, and develop and implement a long-term legionella monitoring plan.
