A Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventory serves as the benchmark for evaluating the effectiveness of all future GHG reduction initiatives such as new construction practices, building retro-commissioning, energy conservation projects, and the use of carbon offsets. Data from the GHG inventory is often used to develop a Climate Action Plan which prioritizes the opportunities available to reduce a campus carbon footprint and GHG emissions. In addition, these metrics serve to track continuing progress in efficient resource utilization.
EH&E assists institutions in developing a GHG inventory that follows the General Reporting Protocols from the World Resources Institute and The Climate Registry. Depending upon the needs and resources available, EH&E can utilize third-party calculators for the inventory such as the Clean Air-Cool Planet model and the Climate Registry Information System (CRIS). Or, EH&E can use our transparent and easy to understand calculator to fit your institution’s unique requirements such as an agricultural school or large commuting population.
EH&E’s GHG inventories evaluate all organizational and operational boundaries, including:
-
Scope 1 – Onsite combustion
-
Scope 2 – Offsite combustion
-
Scope 3 – All additional emission sources such as commuting and air travel
